Guardianship…Annual Letters

Did you know that the Annual Letters of Guardianship Expire?

“Guardians are required to provide the Court with periodic reports on the status of the incapacitated person and the administration of the guardianship.  The order which appointed the guardian and subsequent orders approving periodic reports specified and period of 12, 24, 36 months; the report must be filed within 90 days of the end of the specified reporting period.” King County Local Rule 98.20, RCW 11.92.040Each county has their own rules and for the most accurate information you would want to check with your local county for guidance.  Both Spokane and Snohomish County have Guardianship Monitoring Programs.  King County Superior Court has a manual that you can download for free @ www.kcba.org/CLE/family_guardian_handbook.pdf.

Typically, reports that are filed annually include; personal care plan, order approving personal care plan, guardians report, accounting and proposed budget, approval of guardians’ report, accounting and budget.  If dealing with guardianship of the estate, the annual documentation can be very involved requires great detail.
