Reports to: Lead Pierce & P2P Coordinator

Position Summary: The Bi/Multicultural and Multilingual Outreach Specialist for the Parent-to-Parent Program (P2P) will serve as a crucial link in ensuring that parents of children with an intellectual/developmental disability (IDD) from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds receive the guidance and resources they need for their child and family. This role requires empathy, cultural competence, and effective communication to foster positive relationships and a more inclusive environment within the parent community. The Bi/Multilingual Outreach Specialist assists the programs of PAVE and primarily P2P by providing support, training, information, and resources within Pierce County. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide support, training, information, and resources to families coping with a new diagnosis or new situation with 1:1 technical assistance (TA), information about developmental disabilities, and community resources that are culturally and linguistically relevant and according to the Life Stage of their loved one.  This includes referrals within the programs of PAVE and county partners.
  • Disseminate informational materials, resources, and service information via communication pathways (e.g. print, on the website, social media, training curriculum, etc.) to constituents (i.e. families, professionals, community members, co-workers, volunteers, etc.) and assist with assuring they are culturally and linguistically appropriate.
  • Organize workshops, seminars, and support groups tailored to the needs of parents from diverse backgrounds.
  • Partner with PAVE’s communication staff and core P2P staff for outreach strategies connecting parents/guardians from multicultural and multilingual communities online and offline.
  • Develop and distribute educational materials in multiple languages to enhance understanding and awareness.
  • Access trained Helping Parent Volunteers for culturally and linguistically appropriate matches with parents to provide ongoing support.
  • Identify additional community services and resources for families of children with developmental disabilities and special health care needs for team review and help assure all are up to date.
  • Act as a liaison between the P2P program and the culturally diverse communities it serves, ensuring their unique needs are addressed.
  • Using PAVE’s proprietary ConnectedFamilies database to enter, update, and share information sent, shared, and/or provided to all parents/guardians, children/youth, and professionals.
  • Responds to community inquiries and requests for help in a timely fashion and with competence.
  • Offer language interpretation and translation services to facilitate communication between non-English-speaking parents and program staff.
  • Participant in and assist with implementing updated language access policies to provide equitable support for all parents.
  • Collect and analyze data related to the outreach efforts and their impact on the multicultural and multilingual parent-to-parent community.
  • Develop and distribute educational materials in multiple languages to enhance understanding and awareness.
  • Generate regular reports on outreach activities, highlighting their outcomes and suggesting improvements.
  • Assist with task requests from the Helpline, internal and making external referrals.
  • Assure and assist with the continuous improvement of all aspects of program with evaluations, constituent feedback, staff & volunteer input, and community organizations for informed decision-making. Update, refine, and improve with Lead Pierce & P2P Coordinator, leadership and all volunteers and staff.

Job Requirements for all Staff:

  • Maintain confidentiality of those you work with and other staff members.
  • Be prompt in arriving at work sites, meetings, and workshops.
  • Submit accurate (pre-approved) invoices at the end of each pay period.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • Assist other staff in meeting deadlines.
  • Local travel to be reimbursed by PAVE
